As a scientist with the Fishery Solutions Center, Helen provides valuable experience and expertise on stock assessments, Helen supports the work of the EDF Oceans regional teams by providing guidance and best practices for the analysis of fisheries data, data collection systems, and science policy. She advises these teams on a wide variety of topics including rebuilding timelines for fisheries, analyzing bills and legislation, increasing self-reporting within fisheries and encouraging the collection and use of fisheries data.

Background

Prior to joining EDF, Helen spend six years working for the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries as a stock assessment scientist, specializing in the mathematical modeling that provides a strong foundation for successful fisheries management. While there she ran stock assessments for the state and participated in regional and interstate stock assessment working groups. During that time, Helen sat on fisheries committees for the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission where she chaired the Assessment Science Committee and was a member of the Multispecies Technical Committee.
