Build to Zero Overview

 

EDF has started an initiative to intensify the speed and scale of clean energy and clean transportation project deployment – called “Build to Zero” -- that will activate its deep bench of political, policy, legal, communications and private-sector expertise to overcome the most significant barriers. The Build to Zero workstream pushes for ambitious action through every possible lever – including executive actions and federal, state, and local legislation and/or policy change – while holding fast to EDF’s core values and its commitment to equity and community engagement.

 

Overall Function

 

The Project Manager, Build to Zero will support the execution of the Built to Zero strategy through robust project management and operational support, ensuring that the strategy helps achieve the greatest reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). Addressing barriers, like permitting and siting hurdles, that stall individual clean energy projects and delay construction of clean infrastructure is of critical importance. This position will work across the organization to help drive results in key regions and mission areas, and they will help develop a robust, collaborative external network to leverage EDF’s investment in this work.

 

Reporting to the Vice President, Build to Zero, the Project Manager demonstrates a strong spirit of collaboration, communicates with trust and transparency, and has a laser focus on achieving results while supporting this new initiative. Additionally, they will collaborate with colleagues across EDF and with external allies to strengthen, hone, and pursue EDF’s strategy and leadership on clean energy infrastructure buildout in the United States.

 

Location:

There is a preference for candidates based in Washington DC, but other candidates located throughout the U.S. will be considered.

 

Duration:

This is a two year fixed-term contract position with the opportunity for extension.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and communicate project timelines, expectations, and shifts in deadlines and strategy across Build to Zero, with other teams as appropriate, evaluate project success and usefulness, identify areas of improvement for future use, make relevant recommendations, and communicate evaluation results to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with staff across organization to assign tasks and gather information, including Build to Zero strategy team members and leadership, partner programs, Development, and Human Resources.
  • Standardize processes, ensure awareness and accessibility of critical documents, and promote effective collaboration and communication across the Build to Zero workstream.
  • Create compelling content, including email communications and presentations, which inform staff about Build to Zero's victories, opportunities, turning points, and strategy.
  • Participate in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
  • Support the Vice President, Build to Zero with the implementation of new initiatives.
  • Respond to requests for information, help to coordinate activities and projects for the team, and contribute to reports as needed.
  • Participate in Build to Zero fundraising and Board committee stewardship objectives, including exploring effective methods of tracking progress against grant deliverables that reflect the cross-cutting nature of the Build to Zero workstream and keep key stakeholders on task.
  • Explore opportunities to promote a team culture and structure that foster communication, collaboration, teamwork, and trust.
  • Additional relevant responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of relevant experience required plus Bachelor's or equivalent experience. A Master’s degree may substitute for up to 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in project management and using independent judgment to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload required.
  • Experience manipulating large data sets and translating more complex and disparate information into digestible and compelling talking points and presentations.
  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential information and executing multiple, complex projects simultaneously required.
  • Strong personal organization, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate more complex subject matter, present professional material to small groups, and interact with senior members of the organization.
  • Ability to manage projects independently and work well collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience managing relationships with senior-level staff.
  • Ability to problem solve and overcome roadblocks.
  • A broad understanding of energy and environmental issues preferred.

$70,000 - $78,000 USD/Yr.
