Senior Analyst, Energy Transition
Location
This position may be based remotely in the U.S. or hybrid from one of EDF's U.S. offices, with preference for candidates based in Texas or Washington, DC.

Energy Transition Overview
EDF’s Energy Transition program aims to bend the curve on global greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel production and use by 2030, cleanly and equitably. As a part of this program, the Fuels & Feedstocks team works to develop and deploy science-based solutions that ensure that clean fuel alternatives to fossil fuels offer durable and demonstrable climate and environmental benefits. Our vision is to see high-integrity, low-emission alternative fuels and feedstocks effectively decarbonizing the hardest-to-abate sectors of the global economy (including heavy industry and global transport), while ensuring maximum benefits for climate, ecosystems, and communities.
Overall Function
The Senior Analyst, Energy Transition will develop and execute complex analysis for a suite of multi-disciplinary projects focused on key topics relating to the global fuels and feedstocks vision, with a particular focus on carbon management (e.g. carbon capture, transportation, utilization and storage), hydrogen, biofuels, and other industrial and transportation decarbonization priorities.
Reporting to the Senior Director & Senior Attorney, Energy Transition, the Senior Analyst will support key initiatives through research, analysis, and synthesis of policies, regulations, and business developments. This position will work with colleagues from across EDF to enhance our ability to put forward policy solutions that are founded in substantive research and reflect best available knowledge in science, law, and economics. To this end, the Senior Analyst will conduct policy analysis and modeling; review, synthesize, and communicate relevant research and analysis across several issues; coordinate with others working on CCUS and other fuels and feedstocks efforts to propel EDF’s priorities; and support research and analysis of colleagues working across various Energy Transition teams both domestically and internationally.
Key Responsibilities
- Track relevant policy developments in key jurisdictions, including U.S. state and federal actions, E.U. and member state actions, and others.
- Collaborate with EDF experts and external consultants and experts to build EDF’s portfolio of technical positions and supporting written materials regarding the climate and environmental integrity of clean fuels, carbon management, and industrial and transportation decarbonization.
- Conduct in-depth and comparative policy and regulation analysis to identify strategic opportunities for EDF engagement based on knowledge of Energy Transition technical recommendations, positions, and objectives on CCUS, hydrogen, and other topics.
- Draft white papers and synthesize research and analysis across CCUS and fuels and feedstocks policy issues; produce regulatory comments, legislative testimony, presentations, Op-Eds, fact sheets, and blog posts to communicate positions and research findings to various audiences.
- Build and manage relationships with external experts, including via multistakeholder partnerships and consortia.
- Identify and attend meetings, conferences, hearings, workshops, and other events relevant to the team’s interests and objectives.
- Participate in advancing EDF Organizational Effectiveness and Culture (OEC) goals so people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected,includedand empowered to address environmental and organizational challenges in ways that align with EDF values.
- Represent EDF in external forums, as appropriate, delivering professional briefings or presentations and engaging with stakeholders to advance key policy objectives.
- Coordinate with internal EDF teams to ensure alignment of research efforts, messaging, and policy strategies.
- Engage with external partners, experts, decision-makers, and stakeholders to ensure robust, well-informed analysis and to facilitate the dissemination of EDF’s findings for policy impact.
- Support the development of scopes of work for consultants and external partners.
- Review and evaluate consultant deliverables to ensure quality and alignment with EDF priorities.
- Mentor junior staff, as appropriate, providing guidance on analytical methods, research approaches, and EDF processes.
- Additional relevant responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of related professional experience and a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, economics, law or a related field required. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for up to two years of relevant experience.
- Strong preference for demonstrated interest and experience in carbon management technologies, industries, and policies.
- Demonstrated ability to develop data-driven insights and recommendations, including analyzing quantitative and qualitative information to support strategic decision-making.
- Proficiency in data analysis is required, including the ability to ingest, process and interrogate data using one or more tools or applications (e.g. geospatial or statistical applications, advanced Excel tools, python, R, or other coding languages, etc.)
- Strong project management skills and ability to track deliverables across several workstreams.
- Excellent verbal, writing, and presentation skills, including the ability to translate complicated technical concepts to general audiences.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills with experience in performing rigorous analysis in support of highly visible work.
- Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and as well as collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team spread over multiple time zones.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, adapt to shifting approaches, and meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability in effectively managing relationships and multiple complicated projects concurrently involving contractors and multiple partners within the public, private and NGO sectors.
- Proactive, attentive to detail, and strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across all cultures and backgrounds.
- Strong computer proficiency, including advanced experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and internet-based research.
