Public Health Policy Intern
Program/Department Overview
The Legal and Regulatory Policy Team at Moms Clean Air Force, works to advance equitable, science-based policies that protect families and communities from air pollution and climate change. The team partners closely with federal and state leaders, in addition to legal and science experts to track, analyze, and influence legislation and regulations related to clean air, methane reduction, and environmental justice.
Overall Function
The Public Health Policy Intern will support Moms Clean Air Force’s advocacy work by researching and monitoring policy developments, analyzing legislative proposals, and assisting in the preparation of policy briefs and educational materials. Reporting to the Public Health Manager, the intern will help ensure timely and informed engagement with decision-makers, coalition partners, and the public.
Key Responsibilities
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
- Research federal and state legislative and regulatory actions related to air quality, methane emissions, and environmental health.
- Track policy trends and compiling weekly or biweekly updates for internal staff and partners.
- Draft policy summaries, fact sheets, and talking points for staff and coalition use.
- Support coordination between Moms Clean Air Force, EDF policy teams, and external partners to align advocacy efforts.
- Assist in preparing materials for meetings with policymakers, partners, and stakeholders.
- Participate in advancing EDF’s organizational effectiveness and culture goals, so people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included and empowered to address environmental and organizational challenges in ways that align with EDF values.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in/recent graduate of an undergraduate or graduate degree program with demonstrated interest and/or coursework in political science, public policy, environmental health, climate change, or social justice.
- Strong demonstrated research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with legislative or regulatory processes preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be well organized, motivated, and detail oriented.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a team setting and have the ability to work independently when projects are due.
- Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across all cultures and backgrounds.
- Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills.
Location
U.S. Remote with option to be hybrid out of EDF’s Washington D.C. office. Intern supervisor is in Vermont and many team members are in the Greater Washington Metro Area.

Hours
Part-time (15-20 hr/week) or Full-time (35 hr/week)
Compensation
This internship would involve compensation for work paid at a rate competitive with leading non-profits at $18-20/hr, based on academic level.
