California Clean Electricity Intern

The goal of EDF’s Energy Transition Team is to bend the curve on global greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel production and use by 2030, cleanly and equitably. We will achieve this through a defined set of strategies targeted at 1) reducing emissions from fossil fuel production, delivery, and use, and 2) reducing demand for fossil fuels in power generation, transportation, buildings, and industry. To achieve this goal, we seek reforms in law, regulation, and/or business practice through a mix of strategic corporate partnerships, direct engagement with policymakers, and mobilizinginvestorand public sentiment in favor of change.The decarbonizing US Powerteamsits within EDF’s Energy Transition team.Decarbonizing U.S. Power is the primary group within EDF dedicated toeliminatedcarbon emissions from the power sector, with a focus on aggressive GHG emissions reductions by 2030.
Overall Function
The intern will support key regulatory and legislative work for the California energy program, including regulatory and legislative matters.Theywill conduct research and create presentationsoncleanenergy procurement, with emphasis on offshore wind, transmissionpermittingand need determinations.The intern will also support EDF’swork to stand up an expandedWesternU.S.energy market.The intern will report to the Director, CA Energy Program.
KeyResponsibilities
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
- Research and createpresentations on clean energy matterssuch as clean energy procurement, offshore wind, transmission permitting, and need determinations.
- Contribute tothe development ofa framework forwesternenergy market, with a focus on the launch of a western day ahead market.
- Provide support tothe team indeveloping recommendations on regulatory and legislative prioritiesthrough the creation of written memos, briefings, etc.
- Share key findings and results to the EDFDecarbonizing U.S. Power Team, other key teams within EDFandstrategic externalpartners.
- Participate in advancing EDF’sorganizational effectiveness and culturegoals, sopeople from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected,includedand empowered to address environmental and organizational challenges inways thatalign with EDF values.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in or recent graduate of an undergraduate or graduate degree program with coursework inpublic policy, energy and/oreconomics preferred.
- Demonstrated interest inenergy, electricity, orregulatory utilitypolicy.
- Experience and/ordemonstratedinterest inlegislation and regulatory matters related to clean energy.
- Legislative and/or policy research experience a plus.
- Familiarity with the WesternU.S.clean energy market a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must be well organized, motivated, anddetail-oriented.
- Ability to multi-task,prioritizeand meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a team setting and have the ability to work independently when projects are due.
- Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders acrossallcultures and backgrounds.
- Demonstrate initiative andproblem solvingskills.

Compensation
This internship would involve compensation for work paid at a rate competitive with leadingnon-profitsat $18-20/hr.
