Usually powered by diesel engines, they are among the dirtiest vehicles on the road.
The air pollution from their exhaust pipes causes serious harm to our climate and health, from asthma and other breathing problems to premature death. It often hits communities of color and low-income communities the hardest, because they’re more likely to be near highways, ports and other high-traffic areas.
With electric vehicles, a zero-emission future that benefits our environment, people and the economy is possible.
Our work
Through collaboration with manufacturers, fleet owners, investors and policymakers, EDF is working to make sure all new trucks and buses sold are zero emissions by 2040.
