New York Legislature Proposes $1 Billion for Cost-saving Clean Energy and Resilience Programs for the Second Year in a Row
Statement from EDF New York Director Kate Boicourt on New York One-House Budget Proposals
“By proposing $1 billion for the Sustainable Future Program, the New York legislature is recognizing the critical role of clean energy and energy efficiency in lowering utility bills, cleaning our air and protecting communities from extreme weather. With energy prices driven up by volatile fossil fuels and climate impacts on the rise, we can’t afford inaction. We thank the legislature for their leadership and encourage Governor Hochul to prioritize this program in the final budget.
“We also thank the Senate for their support for advancing a cap-and-invest program as a centerpiece of implementing New York’s climate law and establishing an office of climate resilience. Cap-and-invest would deliver billions in investments year-over-year to expand access to cleaner, cheaper energy, cut pollution and create healthier, more resilient communities. As budget conversations continue, we urge New York policymakers to remain committed to swift implementation of the climate law.”
