Boma Brown-West is a director in EDF+Business. She leads EDF+Business’ work to eliminate toxic chemicals from consumer products and food. Leveraging EDF’s Five Pillars for Safer Chemicals Leadership, Boma influences major retailers and consumer brands to set, execute, and track goals to create a safer marketplace.
Boma has over 15 years’ experience in product sustainability and degrees in engineering and technology policy from Yale University and MIT.
Background
Prior to working at EDF, Ms. Brown-West worked for a decade at Whirlpool Corporation in product engineering and sustainability in roles that ranged from R&D Engineer to Lead Sustainability Engineer. On Whirlpool’s Sustainability Team, Boma played a driving role in establishing the North American sustainability strategy and structure, scaling its product recycling program, integrating LCA into product development, overhauling its materials data management, and working with industry colleagues to create the region’s first ever appliance sustainability standards. In her graduate work, Boma examined factors that improve the economics of electronics recycling programs. Ms. Brown-West has an M.S. in Technology & Policy from MIT and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Yale University.
