Fisheries Finance Manager

Work

Areas of expertise: Private finance investment in fisheries, fisher-science partnerships and global environmental governance.

Klaas is the Fisheries Finance Manager within the Fishery Solutions Center’s Impact Team, working with NGOs, multilaterals, financial intermediaries and funders to enable capital to be directed towards fishery recovery to sustainability. Within this, Klaas is working to define principles for what sustainability means in investment in fisheries and support the creation of a proof-of-concept deal to catalyse sustainable capital flow.

Background

Before joining EDF, Klaas worked as a Senior Programme Officer for The Prince of Wales’s International Sustainability Unit (ISU), where he focused on enabling private finance investment in the transition to sustainable fisheries, working with NGOs and the investment community to identify potential opportunities for investment and considering how these might be structured.

As part of this work, Klaas co-authored, with Lucy Holmes of the ISU and Kent Strauss and Kate Bonzon of the Fisheries Solutions Center, the report Towards Investment in Sustainable Fisheries.

In addition, while at the ISU Klaas focused on global environmental governance for oceans and worked on addressing marine plastic waste through enabling a more circular material economy.
