Elizabeth Fonseca is senior manager, air quality, for Environmental Defense Fund Europe. She led the collaborative Breathe London project, which used state-of-the-art technology to map air pollution across the city, as part of EDF's Global Clean Air initiative.


For over two decades, Elizabeth has advanced environmental policy and worked to address pollution in the UK and the USA. She began her career in the private sector in the USA as an environmental consultant before moving on to the public sector as an environmental pollution regulator. Elizabeth then moved to the UK where she served as a scientific officer for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, followed by several years in local government in London, managing a multi-disciplinary scientific team to tackle land, air and water pollution.
