Under the direction of the Public Health Policy Director, the Moms Clean Air Force Senior Policy Analyst is responsible for writing memos, talking points, blog posts, fact sheets, and other assets; tracking regulatory and legislative policy developments in our advocacy priority areas; following the latest science and research in these areas; regularly updating advocacy and educational materials and identifying resource needs; and engaging with other organizations, researchers, and advocates to advance policy priorities.
The Senior Policy Analyst will track environmental health research, climate science, and federal policy. S/he will develop resources in support of our clean air and climate advocacy campaigns and contribute substantively to the policy strategy of the organization.
Research, draft, edit, and finalize memos, talking points, fact sheets, web content, and other materials to educate staff, field organizers, volunteers, members, elected officials, policymakers, the public, and the media about our policy priorities.
Track federal legislative and regulatory policy developments relating to our clean air and climate change priorities.
Follow scientific and research developments in relevant fields, especially environmental health and environmental justice.
Identify, summarize, and interpret significant research findings, via written reports and presentations, for a broad audience.
Assist in the development of organizational responses or positions relative to existing or proposed policies.
Collaborate with coalitions and partner organizations to advance campaign priorities.
Engage in rapid response to policy developments as needed, including drafting talking points, memos, and blog posts.
Provide research support for Moms Clean Air Force staff and field organizers.
Represent Moms Clean Air Force in external meetings such as with Capitol Hill staff, diverse coalition partners, and media contacts to advance the organization’s work.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Participate in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values
Bachelor’s degree required plus at least 4 years of relevant experience; or, advanced degree in a related field (MPH, MPA, MS, etc.), plus 2 years of relevant experience.
Superior communications skills, including superb writing and editing skills and fierce attention to detail. Skilled at summarizing complex science and policy matters for a general audience.
Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret findings from peer-reviewed publications, policy papers, conference proceedings, and other sources.
Demonstrated understanding of climate change, air quality, environmental health, environmental justice, and/or the legislative and administrative policymaking process.
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Has independent judgment to make decisions on work activities, including identifying and recommending action steps and prioritizing diverse, simultaneous tasks.
Excellent time management and organization skills.
