Overall Function

 

Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, general ledger accountability, and financial reporting, as well as financial profitability analysis and other special projects as assigned. Typically requires at least 4 years accounting experience or advanced degree with equivalent experience.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Administration & Support:

  • Review and approve journal entries to ensure accurate and timely reporting. Ensure adequate support documentation and records are retained.

  • Prepare and review account reconciliations. Ensure reconciliations have sufficient supporting documents. Variances or differences within reconciliations are sufficiently researched, and addressed in a timely manner.

  • Backfill as needed, Provide general accounting operational support of general accounting functions

  • Prepare tables and supporting schedules for monthly financial memo/commentary

Grant Reporting:

  • Assist with preparation of Government grant reporting and billing to government agencies during times of peak activity and/or absence

  • Assist in administering shared files/drives for reporting, invoicing and budget proposals

Audit and GAAP Reporting:

  • Assist with the preparation of schedules, analysis and other documentation for the annual financial statement audit, Uniform Guidance audit, Form 990 tax return, and other program-specific grant audits.

  • Preparation of account analyses, variance analyses and related schedules required for annual audit and GAAP reporting

Tax Compliance: Support Preparation and Filing of all required Tax Returns

  • Prepare Form 990 and 990T annually, ensuring accuracy & completeness of tax returns and reconciles to the audited financial statements.

  • Prepare 990 related reconciliations and schedules as needed and review work papers for selected areas.

  • Communicate with executive management, department heads and others as needed to gather support for tax filings.

Other Projects:

  • Prepare ad hoc reports on a case-by-case basis for Finance Director and other senior staff

  • Develop and/or maintain documentation of procedures for Cash and Accounts Receivable; Month-end and annual closing; Vendor set-ups and the overall Financial Reporting process.

     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, with a minimum of five years accounting or program budgeting experience

  • Must be well organized and motivated, detail-oriented

  • Must be highly proficient in the use of spreadsheets and other computer applications and standard office equipment.

  • Knowledge of, and experience with Great Plains, Prophix, automated accounting systems, and Government reporting preferred.

  • Must demonstrate initiative in problem-solving, be willing to learn new skills, be able to communicate effectively, meet regular and multiple deadlines, and be able to work independently, or in partnership with other staff members to complete projects.
