Overall Function

The Project Manager will be a significant contributor to EDF’s Corporate Climate Leadership initiative, which is building business support for federal climate policy. He or she will contribute to a growing knowledge base and set of activities to accelerate Congressional action on climate change, enabling us to improve our effectiveness, increase our reach and respond quickly to new developments as they arise. The Project Manager will join a dynamic team including staff from the EDF+Business, Political Affairs and Marketing and Communications programs, working under the Managing Director, EDF+Business. He or she will interface with EDF staff across programs as well as with companies, other NGOs, industry groups and other stakeholders at the intersection of business and public policy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Inform strategy by tracking key company information including:

    • Commitments and actions related to climate and energy (e.g., goals and progress toward them, climate and energy policy positions, climate risk disclosure).

    • Relationships with and influence on target lawmakers.

    • Engagement in climate and energy policy at the federal and state level.

    • Membership in trade associations and other industry groups, and those groups’ positions on climate and energy policy.

    • Strategic issues facing companies, their employees and investors.

  • Track climate and energy policy developments; identify where corporate influence would be helpful and create opportunities for companies to engage.

  • Maintain regular communication with target companies and manage selected company relationships in coordination with other EDF staff and consultants.

  • Monitor the activities of other stakeholders that influence corporate advocacy on climate and energy policy (e.g., other NGOs, trade associations and other industry groups, investors, employees); identify opportunities for collaboration and coordinate our work with theirs.

  • Identify and develop opportunities for EDF thought leadership at the intersection of business and public policy; write blog posts and contribute to other communications. 



  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, economics, business or related field with four or more years of relevant professional experience (e.g., legislative affairs, government relations, political organizing), or master’s degree with two or more years of relevant experience.

  • Strong understanding of the political process and what motivates elected officials.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely. A writing sample and/or sample work product will be required as part of the interview process.

  • Strong research and analytical skills. Ability to see patterns across large volumes of data and synthesize key conclusions.

  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment with changing needs and critical deadlines.

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with broad strategic guidance, as well as in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Professional maturity and comfort working with senior staff inside and outside EDF.

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Salesforce.

  • Experience working with a variety of business stakeholders (e.g., NGOs, investors, employees).
