Program Analyst, Energy & Innovation

The Program Analyst will play a significant role in supporting EDF’s growing body of work engaging global oil and gas companies to help realize our goal of reducing global methane emissions 45% by 2025. Under the supervision of a Project Manager in the EDF+Business team, the Program Analyst will help build the organization’s knowledge base, develop strategic plans, and participate in the implementation of complex, multi-faceted strategies for National Oil Companies and other industry actors around the world. The Program Analyst will be exposed to an array of tools and resources and will interface in various capacities with global oil and gas networks, policymakers, the media, and oil and gas investors to create momentum for methane reduction across the global arena. Working in dynamic, diverse teams across the EDF+Business and Oil and Gas program, the Program Analyst will deploy existing skills and learn new skills to support a key workstream that helps achieve EDF’s strategic goals.



  • Provide analytical and research support to the Project Manager, as well as other stakeholders across EDF+Business and the Oil and Gas program team, to develop the organization’s international oil and gas industry engagement strategy.

  • Support the development and implementation of EDF’s strategy for global National Oil Companies (NOCs).

  • Develop the organization’s competencies and strategies related to oil and gas joint ventures (JV) through rigorous qualitative and quantitative analysis of JV network data sets, holistic exploration of existing literature, dialogues with experts, etc.

  • Support specific project tasks such as outreach to potential partners, developing work plans and timetables, drafting memos and strategic plans, identifying and procuring necessary resources, and managing project work and deliverables.

  • Support expanding portfolio of oil and gas innovation projects in North America and internationally, potentially including opportunities in the predictive analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence spaces.

  • Help achieve EDFs voice as a thought leader by developing original content for internal-facing audiences as well as potential opportunities for external-facing thought leadership on subjects such as the role of joint ventures in driving continuous improvement in global methane reduction.

  • Develop and manage process and systems for tracking global industry news and content, to be shared across the EDF+Business and Oil and Gas teams.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, environmental studies, political science, engineering or public policy required; Master’s degree preferred

  • 2-4 years relevant work experience

  • High-level understanding of oil and gas industry landscape, key market players, and general characteristics of oil and gas companies (international oil companies, national oil companies, etc.)

  • General awareness of international oil and gas industry trends, with an emphasis on climate and sustainability

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills

  • Intermediate / advanced command of Microsoft Excel; command of Microsoft PowerPoint preferred but not required

  • Proven ability to manage and analyze large, complex data sets

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of small teams in a fast-paced, dynamic and creative environment

  • Strong presence and demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and partners (both internal and external) from diverse communities, cultures, backgrounds and experience

  • Creative and innovative thinker willing to challenge the status quo and propose new ideas and opportunities
