Overall Function


The Political Manager, EDF Action is a vital member of the federal political team, primarily supporting advocacy, electoral and political efforts related to EDF Action.


The Political Manager will help the team in the goal of building the political power necessary to stop the dismantling of environmental protections and work to ensure the success of pro-environment policy goals and candidates


Core responsibilities include building and executing plans for EDF Action’s electoral initiatives at the local, state and federal level.  In particular, the position will be responsible for working with the Senior Political Director to manage external consultants, supervising and crafting independent expenditures, and generally supporting the needs of EDF Action.   In this role, he/she will be part of a tight-knit team, reporting to the Senior Political Director of EDF Action, while working closely with other colleagues on the EDF Action team.



Key Responsibilities

Plan and execute political strategy, including:

  • Work with Senior Political Director to manage major purchases of the EDF Action independent expenditure programs including television, radio, mail, and digital advertising.

  • Develop a system to track all EDF Action budget items in coordination with the compliance manager and finance staff.

  • Work with Finance and Compliance teams to maintain the political budget of federal and state expenditures for EDF Action, working closely with legal and compliance staff, and ensure timely payment and accurate reporting of all expenditures.

  • Facilitate the process for identifying and tracking political targets.

  • Develop and implement policies and structures to streamline operations including creative product tracking and approval, procedures for external consultants, and the media buying process.

  • Oversee development of public opinion research; compile and track all organizational public opinion research in a centralized database.

  • Work with Senior Political Director to manage all aspects of media production from conception to dissemination including content review, legal and research approval, and logistics for shoots.

  • Attend and represent EDF Action with external organizations and tables as assigned.

  • Present complex information clearly and compellingly in written reports, talking points, and correspondence for internal and external audiences.

  • Carry out projects as assigned.


  • A Bachelor’s degree and at least six years of work experience in political campaigns, working for political organizations; campaigns; federal, state or local governments; or other related entities.

  • Strong understanding of political and campaign paid communications, especially the independent expenditure landscape.

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organization skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize a varied workload, while adjusting to periodic changes to account for new opportunities.
