Overall Function

 

EDF’s Supply Chain team is focused on making everyday products safer and healthier, by improving the way they are designed, produced, distributed, and consumed. The Manager will focus on building our corporate sustainability work in the global supply chain. In particular, the Manager will support strengthening the demand signal from retailers and food brands to the supply chain to prioritize fertilizer optimization and soil health practices. They will also help support other work to advance EDF’s programmatic goals around climate and sustainable agriculture.

 

The Manager will oversee the development, coordination, and implementation of EDF’s emerging relationship with Land O’Lakes around sustainable agriculture. The Manager will work closely with colleagues in EDF’s Ecosystems program, as well as establish and develop relationships with retail, food, and agricultural players to advance EDF’s goals focused on supply chain sustainability. This position will report to the Director of Supply Chains, based in Bentonville, AR.

 

 Key Responsibilities

 

  • Manage EDF’s relationship with Land O’Lakes – build strong relationships with partners at Land O’Lakes and with the internal EDF team focused on implementation. Ensure that work is strategic, well run, and delivering on our joint goals.

 

  • Help manage the overall corporate engagement work for the Sustainable Sourcing Initiative focused on ending fertilizer pollution. Work closely with EDF’s Ecosystems team to build and execute strategies to meet our objectives.

 

  • Manage research to identify and develop economic and business drivers for our agriculture work, including economic analysis, case development, and interaction with partners.

 

  • Become sufficiently knowledgeable about the scope and breadth of the Sustainable Sourcing Initiative’s activities to participate effectively in science team, policy team, and communications team discussions.

 

  • Leverage understanding of our sustainable ag work to support further refinement of the EDF+Business team’s global supply chain strategy.

 

  • Identify and develop relationships with key stakeholders in target retail, food, and agriculture industries with the goal of fostering trust, gathering information, developing project ideas, and recruiting partners.

 

  • Manage and oversee project work and deliverables, develop workplans, negotiate project agreements and scopes of work, and identify and procure necessary resources.

 

  • Lead and communicate various project goals and results to EDF staff, companies, policymakers, environmental groups, the media and the public through reports, interviews, presentations, and other methods.

 

  • Develop and apply appropriate means for measuring the success of our work with Land O’Lakes and other corporate partners engaged in sustainable agriculture.

 

  • In addition to these responsibilities, the incumbent will play an integral role in other activities including fundraising, evaluating and recommending new project ideas; disseminating and communicating project results; and being a team player in the development of a vibrant and entrepreneurial program.

 

Qualifications

 

  • At least six years program or related experience, or advanced degree with at least 4 years of direct experience;

 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;

 

  • Ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience, including coordinating and managing the work of other team members who are not direct reports;

 

  • A broad understanding of environmental issues including the impacts of supply chains and global trade on climate, fresh water, and ocean health;

 

  • Experience in project management and exceptional personal organization and attention to detail;

 

  • An ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, both independently and as a member of small teams in a dynamic and creative environment; and

 

  • Strong analytical skills and experience performing rigorous analysis in support of highly visible work.
