OVERALL FUNCTION

The Healthy Communities Program seeks a Legislative Policy Analyst to support the team’s legislative and regulatory goals of advancing clean air and safer chemicals. The analyst will conduct research, track legislation, monitor congressional hearings, and assist with education and strategy development. The Legislative Policy Analyst will participate in internal and external meetings on behalf of EDF. This person will report to the Sr. Director for Federal Affairs and will work collaboratively with staff across the organization.

 

LOCATION

While this position is flexible and can be performed on primarily remotely or on a hybrid arrangement, there is a strong preference for candidates based in or near the Washington DC metro area. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Research and monitor congressional actions and state and federal policies regarding both toxic chemicals and air quality.
  • Assist with educational efforts with Congressional offices, partners, and external stakeholders around key issues and EDF’s work.
  • Develop relationships both with Congressional staff and partner organizations.
  • Coordinate strategic outreach to partners and other stakeholders.
  • Provide memorandum on congressional hearings, briefings, and research topics.
  • Participate in advancing EDF Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice goals both within the organization and in our federal and community-focused work.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Healthy Communities team and serve as a resource to team members regarding legislation and policy.
  • Draft blog posts and other public communications.
  • Keep track of numerous ongoing initiatives, including keeping on top of deadlines and outstanding commitments.
  • Participates in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the experiences fell connected, included and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.

QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications for the position are:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of professional and/or research experience in environmental policy, environmental advocacy, or related field, or a Masters and 1 year of related experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be well organized, motivated, detail oriented and able to meet deadlines.
  • Have the ability to work in a team setting and to work independently.
  • Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Preference for candidates who have worked within a congressional office or with high-level stakeholders with a focus on legislative policy work in some capacity. 
  • Ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience.
  • A desire and commitment to advance Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice goals, including fostering equitable systems and empowering diverse constituencies both internally and externally.
  • Exhibit strong independent judgment.
  • Must be comfortable with various online meeting and communications platforms.
  • Computer proficiency, including experience with Excel, Word, and Internet research.
  • Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Hiring Range

We offer a strong total rewards package encompassing competitive salary, robust benefits, and professional development opportunities consistent with a modern global organization.

The pay range for this role is 57,000 - 63,000 USD which takes into account factors such as candidate experience, skills, training, internal team equity and local norms.
