Overall Function

EDF+Business seeks a highly motivated, analytically rigorous Analyst to join our team focused on energy system decarbonization. The Analyst will be a key member of the team, conducting research and analysis on a breadth of environmental topics and supporting industry, the financial community and regulators with the independent analysis and tools needed to manage climate risk, assess opportunities, and accelerate urgent action

You will be a key team player in providing research and analysis to drive engagement with corporate partners, and developing thought leadership for EDF’s new investor insights platform, which intends to equip the financial community with the independent analysis and tools needed to manage climate risk, assess opportunities, and accelerate urgent action in the sectors that matter most. 

This role will guide, manage, and grow our work catalyzing technology-driven solutions to reduce and prevent emissions from the oil and gas value chain, as well as execute a strategy, in coordination with the Energy Program, to leverage data procured from MethaneSAT to secure meaningful emissions reductions from those with the power to act. 


Key Responsibilities

The Energy Analyst will work with the Director, Energy Transition. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conduct original research and publish thought leadership that expands EDF’s presence, voice, and expertise in topics such as industry trends, satellites, and oil and gas innovation
  • Perform literature reviews and research, analyzing and synthesizing information on a variety of topics to inform and support EDF’s oil and gas industry decarbonization advocacy efforts globally
  • Leveraging analysis to develop actionable insights and recommendations that stakeholders can use in evaluating and engaging with companies in the energy sector
  • Developing and presenting findings to industry and investors through briefing calls, webinars, workshops and conferences
  • Prepare information to respond to inquiries from a variety of stakeholders
  • Support project management efforts helping to coordinate team activities and meetings as needed
  • Communicate project results to EDF staff, corporate partners, donors, the media and various stakeholders through reports, presentations, blogs, and other methods that build EDF thought leadership
  • Participates in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values
  • Additional relevant responsibilities as assigned


  • Undergraduate degree in environmental science, economics, public policy or related fields and at least three years of related professional experience or a Master’s degree in a related field with 1-2 years professional experience
  • Experience in an analyst role, scientific, industry, and/or financial analysis experience, is required
  • General knowledge of the global oil and gas industry - priority geographies, critical stakeholders, operational practices and key news and trends is desirable
  • Experience in project management and exceptional personal organization and attention to detail
  • Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to continued self-assessment, learning and growth to increase and broaden culturally competent skillsets that produce effective interactions with People across diverse cultures and backgrounds. This includes the ability to adapt to cultural change.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to structure and test hypotheses to innovate new solutions for persistent, challenging issues
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in performing rigorous analysis in support of highly visible work
  • An ability to work both independently and as a member of small teams on multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic and creative environment
  • Proficiency in the use of PCs and the Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Hiring Range

We offer a strong total rewards package encompassing competitive salary, robust benefits, and professional development opportunities consistent with a modern global organization.

The pay range for this role is 55,000 - 62,000 USD which takes into account factors such as candidate experience, skills, training, internal team equity and local norms.
