Overall Function

 

The Director, Performance, and Impact (DPI) for the Chief Administrative Officer’s (CAO) Operations Group is a critically important role, enabling the CAO to work most effectively with internal and external stakeholders. This highly strategic and facilitative role requires a combination of focus and flexibility and a willingness to play an active, behind-the-scenes role, working outside of and between departments and functions to solve problems and attain strategic goals. The successful candidate will be a highly resourceful individual with strong emotional intelligence, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, self-motivated, and has strong analytical skills.

 

Key Responsibilities:


Manage Strategic Implementation
 

  • Manage the execution of the Objectives/Key Results (OKR) plan for the CAO Leadership Group (CLG), covering EDF’s essential operational functions: Human Resources, Finance, IT, Legal, Corporate Services, and Operations
  • Plans and directs administrative, financial, and operational activities for the department on behalf of CAO
  • Work with the CLG to develop and remain accountable to fiscal year strategic priorities through the development of Operations Group leadership meetings and communications
  • In partnership with Senior Project Management Director in Operations, advise on processes and procedures that reflect contemporary approaches to improving program/departmental effectiveness
  • Facilitates high-level decision-making and execution of key CLG objectives
  • Scope, plan and execute multiple, often quick-turnaround projects with minimal outside assistance
  • Proactively identify issues that could impact the successful execution of the CAO’s commitments. This responsibility involves elevating those issues about which the CAO should be aware and framing/positioning ideas to resolve the problem/mitigate the risk
  • Coordinate/orchestrate projects or commitments directly involving the CAO and his direct reports. This responsibility primarily focuses on ensuring continued alignment among the CAO functions and evaluating stakeholder experience with Operations Group services across the organization
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of critical path projects in which the CAO is especially interested and/or for which his awareness or participation is essential
  • Identify points of potential synergies in the global work and facilitate the healthy communication, sharing of information, and conflict resolution
  • Stay abreast of all responsibilities and partner closely with CAO’s Executive Assistant

 

Coordinate Monitoring and Evaluation

 

  • Collaborate with other EDF stakeholders, conduct an inventory of, and evaluate, monitor systems and monitor tools utilized across EDF to measure program/function performance and impact
  • Determine monitoring tools and data collection tools which would be best suited for consistent use across EDF and for contributing to an evidence-based, data-driven picture of EDF’s aggregate impact and mission execution
  • Collaborate with the Senior Project Management Director in Operations to instill inclusion of consistent, focused impact measurement criteria and methods across EDF’s project portfolio
  • Work with the CIO, Chief Scientist, Chief Economist, and other stakeholders to determine the data platforms, databases, and select technologies which EDF will use to capture and organize performance and impact data
  • Ensure coordination with the Chief Development Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities for EDF to highlight its organization-wide performance and impact
  • Proactively interact and collaborate with EDF’s Sustainability Committee to ensure EDF maintains ambitious sustainability targets, conducts rigorous monitoring, and produces clear, accurate performance and impact reporting

 

 Professional Experience/Qualifications:
 

  • Five or more (5+) years of project management experience. PMP a plus
  • Prior experience in non-profit organizations, for-profit firms, or government agencies focused on evaluation and impact reporting
  • Prior academic or work experience on climate, environmental or environmental justice issues
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in sciences, social sciences, economics, evaluation research, statistics, business, or a field related to EDF’s mission
  • Impeccable interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of Objective/ Key Results (OKR) a plus
  • Ability to quickly build trusting relationships at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information
  • High energy, hands-on, action-oriented, client-focused personality that will drive for results
  • Able to work well under pressure, multi-task, and deliver on multiple priorities
  • Versatile and willing to work on constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Strong orientation towards data analytics, issue identification and problem-solving skills
  • Exposure to international development a plus
  • Familiarity with corporate sustainability or social responsibility programs
  • Demonstrated comfort working with VPs, Executives and Board Directors
