Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) invites you on an adventure to experience Cuba’s unique marine and coastal environments. Join EDF staff and ocean experts to celebrate 20+ years of working with our Cuban partners to safeguard marine areas, protect sea life and revive fisheries.
Spend time with EDF experts and our Cuban partners and guides exploring Cuba’s famous Gardens of the Queen National Marine Park, home to abundant mangrove forests, sea grass beds, coral reefs and a wide variety of sea life.
Trip highlights
- Engage in relaxed conversations throughout the trip with EDF experts and our Cuban partners about climate and fisheries, both local and across the globe.
- Participate in a daily array of activities that range from active exploring to simply walking on the beach or relaxing on the boat.
- Experienced and novice fishers: experience some of the best saltwater fly-fishing on the planet. Expert guides will join you in catch-and-release fly fishing in the shallows for bonefish, tarpon, permit and snook.
- Snorkelers and scuba divers: see and learn about the profusion of colorful, exotic life — including sharks and goliath groupers — on the reefs, above the seagrass beds and along the edge of the mangroves.
- Hikers and nature enthusiasts: walk the beaches to visit up-close with terrestrial wildlife and wading shore birds .

Accommodations
Jardines Avalon III
Jardines Avalon III is a 15-cabin, spacious, live-aboard vessel, created to provide its guests with maximum comfort and safety. Each cabin has air conditioning climate controls, an en suite bathroom, and two single beds that can convert into one larger bed. It features a roomy, air-conditioned salon and dining area, a sun deck complete with a Jacuzzi, lounge and deck chairs, and a shaded wet bar and grill. Chefs serve-up delicious meals, snacks, and drinks that highlight Cuba’s cuisine.
Note: Because of its remote location, you should plan to be without internet and cell phone access during your time in Gardens of the Queen.
Travel safely with EDF
When you travel with EDF, your health and safety are our top priorities. EDF and our travel partners have developed robust safety protocols to protect the health of travelers, staff and the communities we visit. In addition, all travelers receive emergency medical and evacuation coverage through Global Guardian.
As conditions and guidelines for the COVID-19 pandemic continue to evolve, so will our protocols. Your registration on this Cuba trip indicates acceptance of and an agreement to abide by EDF’s and our travel partners’ protocols (health screenings, social distancing, boat entry and departure protocols, vaccination requirements, etc.), as well as any country-mandated travel requirements in place at time of travel. Please note: EDF requires that all participants be up to date with all recommended COVID-19 vaccines and boosters, as defined by the CDC, prior to the trip start.
