Governors Climate & Forest Task Force Annual Meeting

The Governors Climate and Forests Task Force Annual Meeting featured governors, civil servants and their partners from 38 jurisdictions across 10 countries, who are collaborating to tackle climate change and reduce tropical deforestation. The Annual Meeting celebrated new partnerships and collaborations between GCF states and provinces with indigenous peoples, local communities, civil society, and private sector actors. At the event, GCF unveiled the Guiding Principles Of Collaboration And Partnership, a set of unifying principles to address deforestation, climate change, and the rights of Indigenous Peoples and forest communities.

Citizens Climate Lobby webinar

The Monterey Bay Regional Climate Action Compact (Compact) and Citizens' Climate Lobby hosted a webinar panel focusing on direct carbon pricing as a means to reducing emissions, how carbon pricing impacts local and regional economic development, and what the implications are for low-income households. The panel shared working solutions in California and a snapshot of the challenges, common features, issues, and trends in putting theory into practice.

China Carbon Market Outlook

China launched its national carbon market on December 19, 2017, following four years of a piloting phase. It is the largest carbon market in the world. In this event, key policy-makers, researchers, industry representatives and NGOs provided an overview of current progress, and took a deep dive into the market’s design element. They also discussed the market’s future development. This event was part of Carbon Pricing Delivering Climate Ambition.

Scaling Up Climate Smart Agriculture

This event in Sonoma County connected farmers and ranchers, multinational corporations, foreign governments, NGOs and climate stakeholders to further the role that food and agriculture has in climate discussions. The event combined panel discussions and tours related to soil health and climate smart agriculture practices, and the roles that sustainable procurement, technical assistance and policy play in scaling up those practices.

Mahindra Discussed its Commitment to Carbon Neutrality

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), India’s leading manufacturer of utility vehicles and part of the $20.7 billion Mahindra Group, announced its commitment to become a carbon neutral company by 2040. M&M will work on its carbon neutrality commitment with EDF, which for 25 years has combined cutting-edge science, economic expertise and unexpected partnerships to help high-impact companies transform business as usual in their products, operations, supply chains and advocacy.

Climate Action is Female: How women are supercharging local leadership for climate solutions

Climate solutions are bubbling up at the local level, often led by women leaders. This Moms Clean Air Force panel discussion highlighted the groundbreaking work of women taking action on climate change at the local level, including mayors, community activists, and other women leaders. Heather McTeer Toney, who served as the first African-American, first female, and youngest mayor of Greenville, Miss., lead the panel. In 2014, she was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as Regional Administrator for Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Southeast Region. She is a senior advisor on local government for Moms Clean Air Force.

Featuring cross-sector representatives, this three-panel event showcased the power of international and subnational policies and projects in future-proofing critical infrastructure and assets, whether curbsides, concourses, cabins, or cockpits.
