Michelle Mauthe Harvey co-leads Environmental Defense Fund's on-site partnership with Walmart in Bentonville, AR advancing sustainable business practices throughout its operations and supply chain. She is one of two staff members responsible for opening the new Arkansas office.
Michelle’s primary areas of responsibility include chemicals, alternative energy, human and environment interactions, sustainability training for Walmart buyers, sustainable forestry, agriculture and seafood, carbon life cycle inventory and analysis, and facilitating strategic coordination among environmental organizations engaged with Walmart. She also serves on the EDF Diversity Committee.

Prior to joining Environmental Defense Fund, Michelle ran a consulting business in sustainable forestry and agriculture; focused on facilitation, strategic planning, and project management; projects included developing a new state plan to sustain agriculture in Maryland and a new research agenda for the USDA Forest Service.
Previous employers include the Society of American Foresters; National Environmental Education and Training Foundation; Management Institute for Environment and Business; Duke University School of the Environment; and International Paper Company.
Michelle is a member of the University of Michigan Graham Environmental Sustainability Institute advisory board and the Center for Environmental Learning operating committee; she previously served on the US CDC National Center for Environmental Health advisory council and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Verifiers Accreditation Subcommittee. She is a Certified Forester and a Society of American Foresters Fellow.
