Harrison Schmitt manages strategic communications and public policy advocacy for EDF's Oceans program in the Gulf and Southeast region and nationally, with the goal of implementing sustainable fishery management for the benefit of the oceans, fishermen and fishing communities.
Prior to joining EDF, Harrison spent more than a decade in Washington, D.C. working in public policy advocacy and public relations campaigns. Since 2007, he has served as the Campaign Director for the New Venture Fund (2007-2010) where he spearheaded several conservation policy victories in the intermountain West with bipartisan support and involving diverse groups of stakeholders, including sportsmen’s groups, ranchers, conservationists, law enforcement officials and property owners.
Harrison also served as Communications and Policy Director for Communities United to Strengthen America, a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring middle-class economic mobility and as Policy Director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. From 2000-2003 he served as the Campaigns Research Manager with the League of Conservation Voters in Washington, D.C.
Harrison earned a B.A. in Environmental Studies from University of Vermont.
