Chief Operating Officer
Liza is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the entire organization. She has a keen focus on Human Capital and direct responsibility for technology, administration, finance and human resources.
Senior VP Global Strategic Initiatives
Paula seeks to increase EDF’s global work and transformational change, charting a path forward in China and other locales. She previously led EDF’s fundraising efforts and oversaw an annual budget increase from $3M to over $100M.
Senior VP Strategy and Communications
Eric works with program staff to develop and implement strategies to achieve our environmental advocacy goals. Author of The Climate War, Eric has served as managing editor of Fortune and national editor, chief political correspondent, and White House correspondent for Time.
Senior VP Development
Linda leads EDF’s fundraising efforts. Her experience includes three decades of development leadership at Yale and Columbia University and high-level consulting for clients such as Barnard College, Brown University, and Rutgers University.

Brian draws from more than 25 years of IT service and technology leadership to oversee EDF’s application development, technology and infrastructure.
VP Human Resources
Flip has worked in human resources and employee development at Newsweek, American Express and Merrill Lynch.
VP Marketing and Communications
Cynthia leads a group of professional marketers who create, develop and execute the marketing and membership efforts for the organization. She previously served as Managing Director of Global Marketing at the Citigroup Private Bank and as an Executive Vice President at Young and Rubicam.
Chief of Staff
Carol facilitates and expedites the day-to-day operations and decision-making of the executive office in addition to executing special initiatives. Prior to joining EDF in 2001, Carol worked for the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
Senior VP Programs
Diane provides overall program vision, strategy and leadership. She previously led EDF’s oceans program as it transformed the U.S. fishing industry through catch shares management. Prior to that, Diane worked at EPA in some of the agency’s highest positions.
Gwen ensures world-class execution of EDF’s strategies to protect human health and the environment. She previously led our Corporate Partnerships program, working with leading companies to develop innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
VP West Coast, VP Land, Water and Wildlife
As head of EDF’s West Coast and conservation activities, David creates significant improvements in conservation policies and the economic performance of businesses. Prior to EDF, David worked as a journalist, management consultant, and director of policy for the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Daniel J. Dudek, Ph.D.
An economist, Dr. Dudek leads EDF’s office in China. He is widely credited with developing the cap-and-trade model that the U.S. adopted for sulfur dioxide in the early 1990s, which led to dramatic reductions in acid rain.
Steven Hamburg, Ph.D.
Dr. Hamburg ensures the scientific integrity of EDF’s positions and programs. He was previously on the faculty of Brown University, where he founded and directed the Global Environment Program and taught environmental science and ecosystem ecology.
Nathaniel Keohane, Ph.D.
VP International Climate
Dr. Keohane leads our International Climate program. Previously, he served as Special Assistant to President Obama for Energy and Environment in the National Economic Council and Domestic Policy Council.
Amanda leads an international team of experts who implement practical solutions to recover ailing fisheries and oceans. Amanda’s prior experience includes research with commercial fishermen in Maine and work on ocean issues as a Congressional staffer.
James D. Marston, J.D.
VP US Climate & Energy
Jim is the founding director of EDF’s Texas office, where he has served since its beginning in 1988. He is a leader of Pecan Street Inc., the Austin-based smart grid partnership, and, in 2007, won the fight to stop utility TXU from building coal plants in Texas.
VP Corporate Partnerships
Tom spearheads EDF’s Corporate Partnerships program, working with multinational companies to accelerate environmental innovation. Prior to joining EDF, Tom held several positions at ICF International and Jellinek, Schwartz & Connolly.
Vickie Patton, J.D.
Vickie directs our national and regional clean air programs. For two decades, she has championed and defended vital reductions in air pollution. She began her career in EPA’s Office of General Counsel.
Frank Convery, Ph.D.
Frank joined EDF by way of academia, most recently as a senior fellow with University College Dublins Earth Institute.
Vice President, US Climate & Political Affairs and President, Environmental Defense Action Fund
Elizabeth oversees the organization’s federal advocacy efforts, with a particular focus on climate change. She has an extensive policy and legislative background and, in her prior role as Legislative Director, was lead strategist for EDF on the U.S. Climate Action Partnership.
