Benefits
Environmental Defense proudly offers a wide range of benefit programs to our employees - benefits that are both comprehensive and competitive within our industry. This summary provides a brief overview of the programs available to our employees.
Medical
Environmental Defense offers an affordable and high-quality health care plan to help protect employees and their families from high medical costs and the financial hardship that could accompany a serious illness or injury. A medical plan covers a range of services, including doctor visits, hospitalization, prenatal programs, and prescription drug programs.
Dental
Environmental Defense's dental plan helps pay for a range of dental services, and is designed to encourage regular, preventive treatment.
Vision Insurance
All staff and their dependants who are enrolled in the health plan are also automatically enrolled in the vision plan. The plan covers ophthalmologists, optometrists, glasses, contact lenses and provides a discount on a laser correction surgery.
TaxSaver - Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
Environmental Defense's Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts allow employees to elect to have money deducted from their pay on a pre-tax basis to be used for eligible out-of-pocket dependent care and health care expenses. This program allows employees to reduce their income taxes and increase discretionary income for expenses such as day care.
Disability Protection
We provide income replacement for short- and long-term periods of disability for pregnancy, illness, or injury. Additionally, employees receive up to nine paid sick days each year.
Life Insurance
Environmental Defense provides life insurance programs to help employees plan for their survivors' financial security. The amount of life insurance staff are eligible to receive is dependent upon their length of service at Environmental Defense. In addition to receiving group term life insurance, employees may elect an optional whole life plan. This is a portable plan that provides a post-retirement benefit and cash value to supplement retirement income.
Retirement Plans
Environmental Defense provides a 403(b) tax-deferred (TDA) retirement savings program. We offer two plans, a mandatory and voluntary plan. All staff must contribute two percent of their annual salary to a mandatory plan beginning on your six-month anniversary. As an extra incentive, Environmental Defense also contributes an additional three percent to your mandatory account. In addition, you can also contribute into a voluntary plan (subject to IRS annual maximums).
Vacation
- New hires up to band 7 are entitled to three (3) weeks of annual leave.
- New hires band 8 and above are entitled to four (4) weeks of annual leave.
- Staff who have worked at Environmental Defense for ten (10) years are entitled to five (5) weeks of annual leave.
Holidays
In addition, Environmental Defense has a generous holiday schedule.
Eligibility: Our benefits programs are offered to employees who are regular full-time employees or part-time employees working 20 hours or more each week.
