Project Scope
This fellowship is designed to focus on analyzing and facilitating energy efficiency investments within a company office building or data center.
Energy efficiency investments are projects that use less energy to provide the same (or greater) level of energy services. For example, compact fluorescent light bulbs are more energy efficient because they last longer and consume fewer kilowatt-hours of electricity than incandescent bulbs.
Fellows are chosen for their ability to do financial analyses, project manage and help facilitate organizational change. EDF is only able to support the fellows and run the Climate Corps program if the projects create direct environmental results in the form of identified energy and monetary savings. This should be the main focus of every fellow’s workplan.
Past energy efficiency project recommendations have included, upgrading of lighting fixtures, replacement of heating, ventilation and air conditioning units, and power distribution units in data centers to help control computer equipment.
While energy efficiency project identification and analysis is the core of the internship, past fellows have had adequate time to augment their workplans with additional sustainability initiatives such as company green house gas inventory, renewable energy and employee engagement projects.
