Mary Barber is the managing director for the Living Cities program for the urban environment.

She is responsible for day-to-day oversight of legislative and policy campaigns in the New York State Legislature, New York City council and other decision-making bodies.

Background

Mary has extensive experience in New York City government and non profit management.

She served as Chief of Staff for former New York City Council Member Ronnie Eldridge and directed Ms. Eldridge’s policy and legislative work. Mary drafted and spearheaded passage of the landmark Child Care bill, successfully obtained millions in New York City capital and expense budget allocations for institutions and service providers, and advised non-profits on public funding and government resources.

She was the Director of Operations and External relations for CONNECT, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending family and gender violence through prevention, education and early intervention managing budget, personnel, development and government relations.

Mary served as Acting Director of Communications for the Greater New York affiliate of Volunteers of America, one of the largest non-profit human services organizations in the region. She coordinated the agency’s communications strategic planning process, promoted the involvement and support of key individuals and corporations through partnerships, and served as the media liaison and spokesperson.
