Statement of Environmental Defense Action Fund

On Today’s Introduction by Sens. Tom Udall (D-NM) and Mark Udall (D-CO) of a Bill to Create a National Renewable Electricity Standard

October 30, 2013
Keith Gaby, 202-572-3336,
Sharyn Stein, 202-572-3396,

“This is the kind of leadership we need in Congress to advance the clean energy dialogue, and to help protect America from the dangers of climate change.

“Leadership from the top, through a program such as a national renewable electricity standard, can spur energy innovation at the state level, meaning it can work as both a top-down and a bottom-up approach, allowing states flexibility to figure out how to meet new standards in a way that spurs both innovation and investment. This bill is a step in the right direction. It would -- from the start -- help our nation create jobs, reduce harmful pollution, and save families money.

“We urge more lawmakers in Congress to join the effort to pass meaningful clean energy legislation.”
