Unica Developer

With world attention focused on both the environment and the economy, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is where policymakers and business leaders turn for win-win solutions. This leading green group, with programs from Boston to Beijing, has tripled in size over the past decade by focusing on strong science, uncommon partnerships and market-based approaches. You can be part of a vibrant workplace that welcomes diverse perspectives, talents and contributions, where innovation and a focus on results are a way of life.

EDF’s Membership Department solicits donations from millions of people each year. Membership staff work collaboratively with fundraising and IT experts to make sure we constantly improve how we serve our members. We are successful when no piece of mail is sent unnecessarily, member requests are accurately honored, and the results of fundraising campaigns are well understood and incorporated into the fundraising DNA of the organization. We enable our members to be engaged, committed partners who take joy in helping to fund EDF’s vital work.

Overall Function
The Unica Developer uses database-query and relationship-management applications to help EDF communicate effectively with its donors. This position requires experience with direct-marketing segmentation strategies and a proven aptitude for using complex computer applications. EDF uses IBM Campaign (Unica) for many segmentations, writes its own Salesforce and IBM Cognos reports, and uses Convio Luminate as its online and CRM solution. Getting a large mailing done right requires attention to detail, inquisitiveness, problem-solving skills, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce direct-mail and telemarketing house lists, and create tracking records of those solicitations, using EDF’s existing deployment of IBM Campaign
  • Work with IT staff and consultants to increase the efficiency and use of IBM Campaign in addressing big-data opportunities
  • Coordinate multi-channel segmentation planning with online and offline managers
  • Translate business requirements into data requirements
  • Become familiar with statistical modeling techniques that can make our fundraising more efficient, and assist in their implementation
  • Maintain all program cost information in IBM Campaign
  • Document all regular processes so they are consistently and sustainably executed
  • Use Convio Luminate / Salesforce reports and Excel to conduct research into data-hygiene issues affecting list accuracy
  • Learn about non-profit fundraising techniques, gain familiarity with EDF testing practices and results, and participate in department-wide brainstorming about improving membership strategy and operations
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years experience as an IBM Campaign (Unica) developer
  • Experience in Quality Assurance processes
  • Ability to address challenges with software applications by asking questions and consulting manuals
  • Skill in writing clearly so that process documentation can be used by co-workers and partners
  • Clear interest in direct-marketing techniques
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines, and work independently when projects are due
  • Experience with business-intelligence and CRM applications a plus.
Location
This position will be located in Washington, DC.
