Overall Function
The Research Analyst for the Europe Program will report to the EU Director and conduct research and analysis in support of the Oceans European Program.  The Associate, based in London, will play a key role in researching, analyzing and synthesizing quantitative and qualitative information from diverse sources to advance our work to improve fisheries management in Europe.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct literature searches using libraries and on-line sources to identify, locate and evaluate published materials.
  • Increase senior staff’s effectiveness by reviewing publications and other information resources for material relevant to program activities and objectives.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze databases.
  • Provide rapid analysis, as needed, to support the EU Oceans program advocacy and technical work.
  • Assist colleagues to prepare information to respond to inquiries from agencies, environmental groups, the press, funders, industry and others.
  • Research and help write and review technical reports.
  • Produce spreadsheets, charts and graphs for reports and presentations.
  • Apply excellent organizational, communication, and planning skills in preparing correspondence and reports, responding to requests for information, and helping to coordinate activities among staff members.
  • Assist in the development and production of project materials such as case studies, brochures, reports, speeches, power point and other visual presentations, including assistance in design, writing, and editing.
 Qualifications
  • Bechelor's degree with major and/or coursework in the following fields: environmental science, ecology, economics and/or environmental policy strongly preferred.
  • 3-4 years relevant experience preferred (or Master's degree and 1-2 years' experience).
  • Familiarity with marine science, fisheries, ocean policy.
  • Capable of quickly understanding and conveying in clear terms complex scientific, legal, socioeconomic, and other public policy issues;
  • Strong research and analytical skills to support highly visible work;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
  • Presence, confidence and integrity.
  • Exceptional personal organization and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability and willingness to work as a strong team player, while at the same time able to work independently and as a self-starter.
  • Capacity for managing a diverse workload and working independently in a fast-paced, dynamic and creative environment.
  • An understanding of and commitment to Environmental Defense Fund’s mission of protecting the natural environment and limiting humankind’s impact on the planet.
  • Legal ability to work in the UK.
