Overall Function
 
Environmental Defense Fund is seeking a full-time, highly-motivated Human Resources Manager who has a solid foundation in all functional aspects of Human Resources. The position is located in EDF's New York City office and reports directly to the Vice President of Human Resources. The HR Manager will provide critical HR support to managers and employees throughout all EDF’s offices and will play a key role in achieving EDF’s strategic goals.
 
Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
  • Support talent acquisition: draft job descriptions, recruit (traditional sourcing and social media), screen/interview/evaluate candidates for exempt and non-exempt positions, including interns and fellows.
  • Perform reference checks, conduct internal equity analysis, extend offers, and complete all required forms and documentation; coordinate and attend job fairs.
  • Plan and conduct new employee orientation as needed.
  • Conduct employee exit interviews, complete appropriate forms and provide feedback to supervisors.
  • Provide assistance to staff regarding employee relations, counseling employees concerning work-related issues, as well as interpreting and applying company policies, procedures, practices, benefits, salary changes, etc.
  • Support performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance and equity within organization.
  • Conduct research to determine the effectiveness of HR programs and policies. Recommend improvement to policies, programs, and procedures to improve human resources operations.
  • Keep abreast of current EEO guidelines, human resources legislation and regulations, as well as changes in the human resources field.
  • Identify opportunities for increased effectiveness of current and diversity outreach recruiting programs.
  • Utilize HRIS and applicant tracking system (i.e. Ceridian and Jobvite).
  • Assist with other HR-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a human resources generalist role, preferably in a small professional services firm (e.g., up to 500 employees), with demonstrated experience recruiting exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; PHR certification preferred but not required.
  • Positive attitude and ability to remain flexible in an evolving environment.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Ability to take initiative, make decisions, multi-task, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Self-starter with high energy; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good judgment to manage sensitive and confidential matters. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; knowledge of HRIS and applicant tracking systems preferred (Ceridian and Jobvite a plus).
