Business Manager, China Program

Overall Function
 
The Business Manager, China Program will be responsible for assisting with the operational and financial planning including the revenue, expense, human resource and operational review processes and systems for EDF’s China Program.  In this role, s/he will systematically gather analyze, and report on income and expense data for the program; troubleshoot data entry, and other routine accounting activities, including processing of all receipts and disbursements, maintaining U.S. GAAP-compliant transaction documentation for U.S. and China sourced transactions and ensuring the integrity of general ledger files.  The manager will also make recommendations to program management on budget preparation, budget administration, and other program-wide financial issues. S/he will work with program staff in both the U.S. and China to ensure the production of timely, accurate and insightful financial information for the China Program. 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Advising U.S. and China staff regarding financial management, analysis, and strategy
  • Liaising with program management, Finance, Development, and others to ensure optimum allocation of resources throughout the program
  • Developing annual budget forecast and variance analyses and advising program management of results, which includes monthly reports of planned vs. actual revenue and expenditures, trends, and issues of concern
  • Creating new project budget proposals by working closely with program management, program staff in US and China, Finance, and Development to support new projects submitted outside the annual budget
  • Monitoring results and advising program management: reviews monthly reports of actual vs. budgeted results; investigates, analyzes documents and explains variances from budget for income and expense line items; and, advises program management and finance staff on trends and issues of concern.
  • Preparing ad hoc financial reports and statements as requested and working closely with  Finance staff, program staff in US and China and others
  • Ensuring timely processing of transactions by coordinating with U.S. and China staff on coding of receipts, disbursements, and journal entries
  • Assisting in the reconciliation of variances to facilitate timely and accurate reporting
  • Conducting research, as requested and drafting, reviewing, and editing written reports for program management, donors, regulatory agencies, and others 
  • Periodic travel within the US and China
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in business administration, finance or accounting. MBA strongly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of finance or accounting experience with knowledge of nonprofit accounting and fundraising practices.
  • Advanced project management and analytical skills.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, reporting and accounting software packages (Microsoft Dynamics/Great Plains and Golden Abacus a plus).
  • Ability to perform well, while multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, tight deadlines and limited supervision. 
  • Excellent communication skills with enthusiasm for team approach and problem solving.
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment, including onsite work in China.
Location
This position will be located in the New York, NY office.
