Texas' energy crunch

We need to be smarter about our energy usage

The integration of renewables, such as wind power, into the electric grid is one

The integration of renewables, such as wind power, into the electric grid is one solution that will lessen Texas’ Energy Crunch.

What exactly is an energy crunch?  The need for energy service continues to grow in the Lone Star state, spurred on by scorching temperatures and a record drought.  Meanwhile economic headwinds coupled with those same environmental extremes make it harder for conventional energy supplies to meet our needs.

We can’t solve this problem with the same thinking that got us here; technology has changed and our lives and our energy industry in many ways over the past few years alone.  Now the state needs to be smarter about the way energy is used, and it all starts with using technology to better manage our electric grid. This includes taking advantage of market-based solutions such as demand response, energy efficiency programs and the integration of renewables into the grid.

The energy crunch isn’t a fleeting issue that will go away after this summer. It’s crucial that we take action now to preserve Texas’ energy-based economy over the long term as we face a shrinking water supply, a growing population, and higher summer temperatures.
