What clean energy finance can do to reduce inequality

Pay less, get more. It sounds too good to be true, but it’s all part of the promise of cleaner energy at lower prices brought to you by EDF and On-Bill Repayment (OBR). That’s good news for anyone paying a utility bill, perhaps even more so for those in low or middle income families.  

“By overcoming cost barriers, OBR can deliver energy savings, cost savings, jobs and more comfortable and healthy homes to underserved communities,” Rachel Neil, an EDF energy policy fellow wrote on our California Dream 2.0 blog. “In addition to these tangible benefits, it offers residents greater control over energy generation, as well as their energy consumption.”

Rachel recently presented the case for OBR at the Clean Power, Healthy Communities conference in California. In addition to sharing our work with community organizers and other advocates, she got a chance to hear about initiatives that OBR could seamlessly support and complement, such as community-owned solar. Sound like a bright idea? As Rachel shows, it is.
